Efficacy of Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization for Prenatal Diagnosis of Chromosomal Aberrations

Abstract

|
The purpose of this study to evaluate the efficacy of Fluorescence In situ Hybridization for rapid prenatal diagnosis. The FISH was performed using 4 type of commercial probes in interphase and metaphase amniocytes and chorionic villus cells. The
results of FISH were compared to cytogenetic karyotyping analyses of same samples. The chromosome X-alpha satellite probe was reliable, but the chromosome 21-unique sequence probe showed unsatisfactory result. The chromosome 8 coatasome probe and
all
centromere probe were considered to have high hybridization/detection efficiencies. These results suggest that the FISH would be a useful adjunctive diagnostic test to the traditional cytogenetics for rapid prenatal diagnosis.
